Product Overview

54672522 is the genuine Ingersoll Rand air filter element for NG R-Series (Next Generation R-Series) 30–37 kW screw compressors. It installs inside the external air cleaner assembly, upstream of the airend inlet, capturing dust, sand and fibres before they reach the compression chamber. Its condition directly affects the service life of the oil separator, oil filter and lubricant downstream.

One part number covers four models on the same platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Both 30 kW and 37 kW ratings share the same element, and both fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations use it. No need to distinguish by power or drive type when ordering.

Technical Specifications

Filtration Performance

ParameterValue / Note
Filtration Rating≤10 μm
Filtration Efficiency≥99% for particles ≥5 μm
Dust Holding CapacityApprox. 900 g
Filter ClassEvaluated per ISO 5011 (efficiency + restriction + dust capacity); not classified under EN 779 HVAC standards

Flow and Pressure Drop

ParameterValue / Note
Rated Air FlowMatched to NG R-Series 30–37 kW displacement; 1 element per compressor
Face VelocityApprox. 0.036 m/s
Initial Pressure DropInlet vacuum should stabilise below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) after installation
Alarm / Final ResistancePer compressor inlet vacuum gauge and controller alarm
Energy ImpactEvery 1 kPa rise in inlet restriction adds roughly 1% to energy consumption

Pressure Drop vs Energy Consumption

As inlet restriction rises, inlet pressure and air density fall. The compressor must work harder to maintain set discharge pressure and flow, raising specific power. Based on 0.7 MPa discharge and 101.3 kPa atmospheric pressure:

Inlet RestrictionCompression RatioRelative Energy Increase
0 kPa (new element)7.91Baseline
2 kPa8.07+2.0%
4 kPa8.24+4.1%
6 kPa8.41+6.3%

From new to heavily loaded (0 → 6 kPa), energy consumption climbs by about 6%. R-Series units often run 6000+ hours per year — that extra electricity costs far more than the filter itself. This is the engineering reason behind the factory-set differential pressure alarm.

Construction and Installation

ParameterValue / Note
DimensionsOD 194 mm × ID 114 mm × Height 399 mm
Media Height367 mm (approx. 32 mm for end structures)
TypePleated radial-seal cylindrical element, primary / outer element

Installation and Maintenance Steps

One person, approx. 20 minutes.

  1. Shut down, depressurise, lock out/tag out. Disconnect main power and apply lockout/tagout. Wait until the controller shows 0 bar system pressure. Check: gauge at zero, no residual air flow noise.
  2. Open the air cleaner housing. The air cleaner is external, mounted on the R-Series enclosure. Release the end-cap clips or bolts. Check: clips not seized, end cap not deformed.
  3. Remove the old element and inspect. Pull the old element straight out and examine dust distribution and surface condition. Check: even grey-brown dust is normal; oily residue indicates oil carryover upstream and needs investigation.
  4. Clean the housing interior. Wipe the inner walls and base with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not blow compressed air into the housing — it drives dust into the intake. Check: no loose dust; in humid regions, also check for condensation at the base.
  5. Check the breather filter. The breather filter (part 39123111) shares the 2000-hour interval. Inspect now: replace if clogged or heavily loaded. Check: media intact, no severe dust build-up.
  6. Install the new element and confirm the seal. Align 54672522 with the housing outlet and push fully home. Confirm the radial seal is evenly compressed, with no trapped material or skew. Check: element face flush with housing, even seal compression all round.
  7. Reassemble, reset the timer and verify. Refit the end cap and tighten clips. Reset the air filter service timer on the controller. Start the compressor and run at idle for 5 minutes. Check: inlet vacuum stable below 0.05 bar (5 kPa) confirms a good seal; if vacuum is high, check seal seating.

Golden rule: Never start the compressor before the element is seated and the seal compressed. With a radial seal, if the element is not pushed fully home, air bypasses directly through the gap between seal and housing — equivalent to running with no filter at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which models use 54672522?

All four models on the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform: R30I, R30N, R37I and R37N. Fixed-speed (N) and variable-speed (I) configurations share the same element. R30, R37, R30IE and R37IE also use this part number.

Is the R30 and R37 air filter the same?

Yes. 54672522 fits both R30 (30 kW) and R37 (37 kW). The difference is motor power and displacement; the 30–37 kW platform uses the same housing and element.

Can it be used on R45 or R55?

No. R45–R75 uses 54672530; R90–R110 uses 23429822. Filter housings differ across power platforms and cannot be cross-fitted or sealed.

How often should it be replaced?

2000 hours or 3 months under standard conditions, whichever comes first. In high-dust environments such as cement, quarrying or mining, shorten to approx. 1500 hours. If site dust is consistently high, add the high-dust pre-filter kit (24737298 / 24737306) — when the pre-filter layer is spent, replace only that, extending main element life.

What else should be changed at the same time?

Items on the same 2000-hour interval: oil filter 54672654, oil separator 54749247 and breather filter 39123111. These share the interval with the air filter; inspect and replace together to avoid staggered maintenance and repeated downtime.

Is there a service kit covering these?

Yes. 2000-hour kit 24730897 (fixed and variable speed), 4000-hour fixed-speed kit 24730939, and 4000-hour variable-speed kit 24766123.

Which lubricant should be used?

Ingersoll Rand Ultra Coolant, part 38459582, for all R-Series screw compressors. Available in 5 L, 20 L and 55-gallon sizes.

Can a dirty element be blown clean and reused?

Not recommended. This is a radial-seal pleated paper element designed for single use. Reverse blowing with compressed air only removes surface dust; deep fine particles remain, and the pressure can fracture fibres or distort pleat spacing, creating invisible channels. A cleaned element may look fine but is effectively failed — the risk outweighs the benefit.

How do I know it needs replacement?

Four signals: (1) rising inlet vacuum gauge reading; (2) controller service-due alarm; (3) media surface completely covered with dust, original pleats no longer visible; (4) falling discharge flow with rising energy consumption. Replace on any one signal.

Is this a genuine part? How do I verify?

54672522 is the Ingersoll Rand OEM part number. Genuine parts carry Ingersoll Rand anti-counterfeit markings and warranty. Always order by the part number itself — it is the only unambiguous identifier. Do not order based solely on "fits R30/R37" or visual similarity.

Reading the Table

  • All eight models above use this product — they belong to the NG R-Series 30–37 kW platform. Fixed or variable speed, with or without dryer, does not affect air filter selection.
  • Cross-platform interchange is not possible. Air filter part numbers for other power bands in the same series:
Power PlatformAir Filter Part No.

Recommended replacement: air filter, oil filter and oil separator share the 2000-hour interval — replace together to avoid staggered maintenance. At dusty sites, add the high-dust pre-filter kit first; the pre-filter costs far less than the main element and is quicker to change.
